Has anyone else ever seen this and what should I look for? Guess I may need to head to the Remote and try and trouble shoot his. The temperature is about right for antenna work anyhow... been around 10-20 degrees all week. If there is a floating shield, up goes the noise floor. BTW, moved to Cody Wy and been down to 2?F and 16" snow last 3 weeks. Here the winds are high and constant. Wy is the windest state in the union. Only 45 minutes to the East Gate of Yellowstone. Heading to winter retreat in Yuma next week. When back this spring going to look at station. Have 53 acres so lots of ideas, room just it has to handle winds and ice loads. 73 Gunny. Was /W7 but OFFICIALLY changed to new address on the lower SouthFork of the Shoshoni River. May have to revert back and screw on all the RG6 connectors just to be safe for the winter. Push ons probably not good for cold wx states. Then look at the noise and see if it only stays on the alternate positions. If so the noise is external to the array. I would ask more questions but leaving for the evening here. Make a note of any directionality to the noise. If none disconnect one end of each delay cable and turn the direcdtion control. If any channel is compromised the direction will point to the problem. More later gotta go right now. I disconnected the antenna feedlines one at a time until removal of one feedline made the noise go away. It turns out a critter had chewed into that RG-6 feedline. Because the feedlines carry DC to the preamps, a cable fault, like a partial short of the braid to center conductor, will result in noisy current flow across the breach. 73, John W1FV ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2018 19:42:12 -0500 From: To: "Hi-Z Reflector" Subject: [Hi-zreceivingarraydiscussions] Hi-Z 4-8 Pro Message-ID: <24BA2716A3294ADE98A60E0FE5200735 at DenComputer> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hi all, For some reason I have experienced a sudden increase of 20db noise floor increase in the 4-8 pro array.... I removed all 28 of the push on connectors I had on the system... Did find 1 at one of the Plus 6 boxes that was quite loose and found 3 more inside the Array center boxes. did the Plus 6 vltg tests after I finished reconnecting the coaxes direct and all voltages were good and I see I now have the s/n level resting at about ?130 db.. That?s about right.... not the 80-90 I was seeing!! I would definitely NOT recommend those for someone looking to eek out every db of signal :) Merry Christmas all, Larry k1UO From: John Kaufmann Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2018 1:14 PM To: k1uo at tds.net Cc: hi-zreceivingarraydiscussions at hizantennas.com Subject: Re: Hi-Z 4-8 Pro Hi Larry, I had the exact same thing happen to my array just recently.
