Early attempts to seal units against moisture were given up as you always end up with condensation. What I do now is keep transformers and preamps out of direct sunlight and with a roof over there head. This seems to work better than anything else I've tried. The current shelters for the HIZ preamps are plastic coffee cans cut down to allow cables in and out. The inverted can is left open and its basic function is to shed snow, rain and sun. I use decaf of course so the preamps don't get hyper! We found its performance to be good as expected, mostly in its directivities and F/B ratio. In search of perfection, yesterday we moved away the footprint about 90ft more from the self- supporting metal tower. Unfortunately, one of the element had to be installed in higher place (about 2mtrs) than other three which in flat surface. I felt that I didn't obtain the two factors mentioned above. The rx signal level are about the same in all directions. Could it be caused by the difference height where I located one only element? Before I put them back to original footprint (nearer to the tower), I'd like to have answer from you. Tnx es 73 de Jo, YC?LOW? Sent from my BlackBerry? To our knowledge this is the first Hi-Z array to be installed in the equatorial zone. We are hopeful it will help with receiving on top-band there. Look for Jo and his ops as YE1C in the CQ-160. Personally I am optimistic the array will help with the everpresent lightning static there. We will see. Dont forget to turn your own arrays that direction once in a while looking for YE1C. Congratulations to Jo and his guys on all their hard work. I have pix of the temporary array in a Tea plantation. Hope to post them so others can see soon. I and the team will be QRV a day before the CQ-160m CW contest, in Friday 28 February 2011, starting 1117z (local sun rise) using our home calls: YC0LOW/1, YB1CCF, YC1KAF, YB1NWP etc. Having found some errors we made a week before, our final test in last Sunday gave the team lots of thrills and enjoyments to receive DX signals, especially from US-land, although it was not an easy task during our SS where tropical static and D-layer were still dominant. But, it worked FB. We will be using it as YE1C main rx antenna in the contest Better and more exotic pictures of temporary installation of your rx array will be made and sent to you, soon.
