[Hi-zreceivingarraydiscussions] While you're waiting

 Greetings Hi-Z group.
While we are waiting for the 80 and 160 meter bands to open up there is
 something else to do.
We recently had the opportunity to compare the standard 80 foot sides
4-square to a 4 element 40 meter beam at 180 foot elevation. We are
pleased to note to everyone that the 4-square RX array really can hold
its own on 40 meters. Although the pattern does deteriorate a bit on 40, the
tests we made indicated that the 4-square heard all the 40-meter signals
equally as well as the beam at 180 feet.
Also, as Jeff pointed out about the broadcast band, we are finding this
an excellent way of verifying that your array is really working right. Barring
other close antennas or location compromises, you should see about 30 dB
or better front to back on the high end of the BC band. If you see this, it is a
very good indication the array is working well. We also have a BC band SWL
guy testing a 4-square array right now to see how we stack up against their
 multi phased loops and etc.
I have a hard time waiting to hear the results.
